We made this course for the NHS

Here in the UK, people who are not proficient in English are more than twice as vulnerable to ill health than those who are. In an initiative which aims to mitigate this inequality, Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NUTH) commissioned us to produce a short eLearning course for their staff.

This course is now available for you.

Its objective is to enable staff to communicate more effectively with patients who have English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Do you work in healthcare?

If so, this course is for you. It includes examples from both clinical and non-clinical staff and will inspire you to communicate clearly no matter which field of healthcare you work in.

An hour of eLearning

Healthcare staff are busy, so this course is short. There are three units of less than 20 minutes duration with an engaging presenter, fun activities and content which is highly relevant to the workplace.

It makes a huge difference

You will feel so much more confident when dealing with patients who have limited English if you follow the tips in this course. The patient will notice that you are a skilled and considerate communicator and feel safer, and as a result

their patient experience will improve.

“This was great course. I look forward to integrating these communication skills in my daily midwifery practice and hopefully improving service users’ experience”
